Senior
Efficacy
SANIMED Senior is tailored to the nutritional requirements of older dogs
of all breeds. This food is tailored to the loss of functions in an ageing dog.
The digestibility of the food has been increased through modifications in the
ingredients. The reduced ability to lengthen omega-3 fatty acids during metabolic
action (Pamplona et al., 1998) is compensated for by offering extra fatty acids with
longer chains.
The drop in the amount of Vitamin E in the body (Stowe et al., 2006) is
counteracted through an increased supply of this vitamin. The drop in Vitamin E
in the brain is associated with dementia in older dogs (Skoumalova et al., 2003).
The high content of moderately fermentable crude fibre stimulates declining
intestinal motility associated with ageing (O’Mahony et al., 2002) and promotes
the expelling of stools.
Just like SANIMED Adult, SANIMED Senior is compiled to promote a long and
healthy life for your dog. The risks for the most significant causes of natural death
or euthanasia, such as cancer, disorders of the musculoskeletal system, kidney and
liver failure, heart function disorders and dementia, are reduced. For this purpose,
the characteristics of SANIMED Senior are further en-hanced.
An excessive condition increases the risk of the typical age related diseases.
A body condition that is too thin is however also undesirable in an ageing
dog because it coincides with the loss of muscle mass (Armstrong and Lund,
1996). The specific composition of SANIMED Senior reduces the risk of the
aforementioned diseases, but the dog’s body condition should still be monitored.
An ideal body condition increases the animal’s lifespan and reduces the risk of the
most significant diseases. An individual dog should be fed SANIMED Senior in
such an amount that their ideal condition is achieved and maintained.
