Kitten
Efficacy
SANIMED Kitten is tailored to the elevated nutritional requirements of kittens of
all breeds (National Research Council, 2006). The generation and growth of new
tissue peaks during this phase. SANIMED Kitten has a specifically tailored blend
of calcium, phosphorus and Vitamin D for healthy skeletal development (National
Research Council, 2006). The ratio of calcium and phosphorus is 1:05.
The sources of proteins, fats and carbohydrates in SANIMED Kitten are of a
high quality and as a result, digestion improves and thereby also defecation.
Optimum supply of essential nutrients to the cat, including essential fatty acids,
linoleic acid, arachidonic acid, alpha-linolenic acid, eicosapentae-noic acid (EPA)
and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), improves the condition of the skin and coat
(MacDonald et al., 1983) and the immune function (Bauer, 1994). The high content
of EPA further-more leads to the synthesis of eicosanoids, which act as an inhibitor
against inflammation, therewith suppressing atopic reactions (Harvey, 1993).
Struvite urolithiasis can develop in kittens, resulting in disorders of the lower
urinary tract. Discourag-ing the formation of struvite can be achieved through
a low urine pH and a low concentration of struvite forming components
(magnesium, ammonia, phosphate). SANIMED Kitten reduces the urine pH to
approximately 6.3 and contains relatively low amounts of magnesium, phosphorus
and protein in order to reduce the concentrations of struvite forming components
(Osborne et al, 1990).
The basis for a long and healthy life is established in their youth. The condition
of a cat’s body during the different stages of life determines, to a large extent,
their life expectancy (Scarlett and Donoghue, 1998). The condition depends on
their food intake and, to a lesser extent, on movement. An ideal body condition
increases the animal’s lifespan and reduces the risk of the most significant
diseases. An individual kitten should be fed SANIMED Kitten in such an amount
that their ideal condition is achieved and maintained.
